Mary Evergreen Baptist Church Leadership

Mary Evergreen Baptist Church is blessed to have a leadership that is truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following is a brief bio of our Pastor  and his qualifications for ministry.

Dr. Willie J. Giles, Jr.

Pastor

Dr. Willie J. Giles, Jr. was born in Shreveport LA and reared in Claiborne Parish. He attended grade school at Athens Elementary and graduated from Gibsland Coleman High School in 1977.  He received his undergraduate degrees from Bossier Parish Community College, Louisiana State University and Inter-Baptist Theological Seminary in Houston TX.  Dr. Giles retired after 23 years of service in the US Army Reserve, as First Sergeant, serving as Military Police for 6 years and received an honorable discharge.

 In 1999 he received a Doctorate of Divinity from Inter-Baptist Theological Seminary where he was an instructor for seven years at Caddo Theological Seminary and Bible College.  Also in 1999, he was installed as Pastor of Mary Evergreen Baptist Church in Shreveport LA.

In 2008 he was elected as Moderator of the Mount Herman Baptist District Association served 10 years, recently being appointed as Interim Moderator. In 2018 Dr. Giles was appointed as Assistant Treasurer to Louisiana Home and Foreign Mission State Convention. 

He is married to Loretta Harris Giles, they are the parents of two sons, Jeremy Harris Giles and the late Marcus Wyatt Giles., two grandchildren, Levi and Jer’Navia.

Dr. Giles strives for excellence and believes through God all things are possible.  His motto is based on Colossians 3:23, “Whatsoever ye do, do it whole heartily as to the Lord and not unto men.”
